Triset: What it is, how to play, and why it is exciting
Triset is a fast, skill-forward card duel on Zeroplay. Every match is a race to build three sets, arrange them smartly, and outthink your opponent. It is simple to learn, deep to master, and backed by transparent systems so you can verify what happened in every game.
What is Triset
- Two players face off with their own 10-card hands.
- Each player builds three sets of 3 cards and discards 1 card.
- You then order your three sets as Set 1, Set 2, Set 3.
- Your Set 1 competes with their Set 1, Set 2 vs Set 2, Set 3 vs Set 3.
- Win 2 out of 3 to take the pot.
The tension comes from two decisions:
- Which sets you build from your 10 cards.
- How you order those sets against what you think your opponent will do.
How to play
-
Receive cards
You receive 10 random cards. Only you can see them. -
Build sets
Create three 3-card sets. You will use 9 cards total and discard 1. -
Arrange order
Place your sets into positions: Set 1, Set 2, Set 3. Order matters because each position fights the opponent’s same position. -
Lock your choices
Locking confirms your sets and their order. After lock, no edits are possible. -
Reveal and settle
Both players reveal, sets are compared, and the winner is decided. Win 2 of the 3 set matchups to win the match. Ties can split a set, and rare full ties can split the pot.
Controls:
- Desktop: drag cards to rearrange easily.
- Phone or tablet: long-press and move cards to reorder.
Set rankings
From strongest to weakest:
-
Trial
Three of a kind. Example: A A A. -
Pure Sequence
Three consecutive cards of the same suit. Example: J Q K of spades. -
Sequence
Three consecutive cards, suits can differ. -
Color
Three cards of the same suit, not in sequence. -
Pair
Two cards of the same rank plus any third card. -
High Card
None of the above. Highest card wins within this category.
Note: If both sets are the same category, tie-breakers follow standard comparisons within that category. For example, higher ranks inside Trial or highest top card inside High Card.

Strategy guide
-
Balance beats extremes
Three medium-strong sets often outperforms one very strong set and two weak sets. You want to cover two positions reliably. -
Ordering is a mind game
If you think they will put their strongest set first, you can sacrifice your weak set in Set 1 and secure Sets 2 and 3. If you think they hide power in Set 2, adjust accordingly. -
Discard with purpose
Remove cards that do not unlock better sets. Do not cling to a pretty card if it blocks two strong sets. -
Think in ranges
Given your hand, what are the top two set categories you can achieve consistently Do not chase a miracle Trial if it destroys your overall balance. -
Do not telegraph
Fast locks on obvious orders can give patterns. Mix your approaches so you are hard to read over multiple games.
Example flow
- Your hand allows: one strong Sequence, one medium Color, and one weak Pair.
- Opponent tends to lead strong.
- Plan: put your weak Pair in Set 1, your strong Sequence in Set 2, and your medium Color in Set 3.
- Outcome aim: likely lose Set 1, win Sets 2 and 3 for a 2 to 1 match victory.
